Henry, Abidal and Touré impress

Henry, Abidal and Touré impress

Three of FC Barcelona's summer signings have enjoyed their first two appearances in the Blaugrana colours after being part of the highly successful trip to Scotland last week.

Frank Rijkaard's side have made a good start to the pre-season campaign, but beyond the two victories the coach will have been encouraged by the way that Thierry Henry, Éric Abidal and Yaya Touré have adapted so quickly to their new surroundings. Thierry Henry: Two halves and a goal Henry made his debut for the club as he came on at the start of the second half against Dundee United at Tannadice last Thursday.

The French forward replaced Samuel Eto'o and did not take long to show what can be expected of him as he created two good chances. After impressing throughout the 45 minutes, it was right at the end that Henry capped his performance with a goal. After having his penalty saved, the former Arsenal star was able to tap in the rebound and celebrate his first strike and the winning effort in the game.

Rijkaard chose to introduce Henry in the second half against Hearts too, on Saturday, as he replaced Santi Ezquerro in the Barça forward line. On that occasion he was unable to score, but he showed his capabilities up front as he set up Giovani Dos Santos for the team's third of the afternoon and linked up impressively with young Bojan Krkic.

Touré Yaya: Good run out The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed 128 minutes of action durng the two games in Scotland. Against Dundee United Touré was named in the starting line-up and was able to show his strength and power in the defensive midfield position.

Before being replaced in the 63rd minute, the former Monaco player also impressed with a range of passing. In the second outing, against Hearts, Touré again started and played 65 minutes. The African midfielder was strong in his defensive duties and showed his technical ability and vision throughout.

Abidal: Impressive on the left Éric Abidal played in the second half of both matches as he replaced Sylvinho at left-back. He was impressive attacking down the flank and did not allow any opposition player to pass him at the back. The defender was very effective and appeared to enjoy the 90 minutes that he was given over both encounters.
