Thierry Henry calls for Barcelona to stage a Real repeat at Chelsea
Thierry Henry has urged his Barcelona team-mates to produce a repeat performance of last night's demolition of Real Madrid when they take on Chelsea this week.
Barça are now the overwhelming favourites to replace Madrid as Spanish champions after thrashing their arch rivals 6–2 at the Bernabéu in a stunning display of attacking football.
Madrid's defence simply had no answer as the capital club conceded six goals at home for the first time in almost 60 years, leaving the Blaugranas on course for a historic trophy treble this season.
To keep those hopes alive Barcelona must overcome Chelsea in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, following a frustrating goalless draw at Camp Nou, but they will have taken heart from their humbling of Juande Ramos's side and Henry wants to see more of the same in west London next week.
"Against Chelsea we must have another incredible game," said Henry, who scored two of his side's goals at the Bernabéu, including an 18th-minute equaliser after Gonzalo Higuaín had put Madrid ahead. "We are a team who fight. After we went 1–0 down we didn't know how things would finish up. So we had to fight, and more so away from home."
The Barça defender Gerard Piqué, who was also on target with the club's 100th league goal of the season, added: "We will go to Chelsea looking for the win like we did here – it's the only way we know." His 82nd-minute effort has left Barcelona just seven goals shy of the single-season record set by Real Madrid in 1989-90.
Samuel Eto'o, who is the leading scorer in La Liga this season with 27 goals but for once did not manage to get his name on the scoresheet, warned his side not to get too carried away with the victory.
They may have one hand on the Spanish league title, but, with huge matches coming up in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey final, Eto'o insists that Barcelona cannot relax. "We still aren't the champions," he said. "We have to treat the other teams that are coming up with respect. But it's true they [Madrid] need a miracle to stop us.
"Now we have to forget about this win and think about Chelsea, where we must go out with the same desire and with humility, as if this match didn't happen."
The Barcelona president Joan Laporta added: "It will be a very difficult game in London. To get through to the final we will have to make a heroic effort. It will be difficult, but this Barça side is capable of everything."
