Txiki confirms Giuly Roma deal


Txiki Begiristain has confirmed that FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with AS Roma to complete the transfer of Ludovic Giuly to the Italian club and all that remains is for the player to agree personal terms.

The Blaugrana technical secretary explained that a deal was close to being completed with the fee set to rise to around €4.5m, with a lump sum paid up front and another amount based on performances.

Txiki revealed the move this morning as he spoke in Santa Coloma after days of speculation surrounding the French winger's future. Signing on "The agreement with Roma is finalised," he said. "But what is missing is the player's signature on the contract. At this stage he is undergiong a medical."

Giuly has been offered a deal with the Serie A outfit for three years. Ezquerro valued Reflecting on Santi Ezquerro's situation, Txiki recognised that Athletic Club Bilbao had made their interest in taking him back to San mamés known. The 30-year-old has 12 months left on his current contract at Camp Nou. "The player has some value and we will be working with them."

Motta and Maxi Thiago Motta is another player that could be on his way out of the club this summer. "He is the player that will receive plenty of offers," Txiki stated. "The question is whether we accept one and move forward with it." The Italian-Brazilian midfielder has been advised to work in the same manner as Giuly did. "If he does that, then he could move to an big club," the Barça director continued before adding that he was impressed with Giuly's willingness to listen to offers.

Finally, Txiki focussed on Maxi López and said: "Clubs have called to ask about his situation, but there have been no specific offers."
Everyone in for pre-season
Txiki Begiristain has announced that although several players could still leave FC Barcelona this summer, the club will not be rushed into selling for the sake of it. In fact, he believes that every player that is under contract will begin pre-season training, even if their departure is being negotiated.
